ആവേശവും ആരവവും ആവലാതികളും

ഇന്ന് ഇവിടെ വള്ളം കളി ആണ്. എല്ലാര്‍ക്കും ആവേശം ... കുട്ടനാട്ടുകാര്‍ക്ക് പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് . സത്യം പറഞ്ഞാല്‍ എനിക്ക് അത്ര ആവേശം ഒന്നും ഇല്ല. മിക്കവാറും ഇതു ഒരു വെള്ളം കളി തന്നെ " അകത്തും വെള്ളം പുറത്തും വെള്ളം ".
ഇതു 56th Nehru Trophy Boat Race. 56 വര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ക്കു മുന്‍പ്‌ നെഹ്‌റുവിനെ സ്വീകരിക്കാന്‍ ഒരുക്കിയ ചുണ്ടന്‍ വള്ളത്തില്‍ അദ്ദേഹം ആവേശത്തോടെ ചാടിക്കയറി. അതിന് ശേഷം തുടങ്ങിയതാണീ Nehru Trophy Boat Race

I see three good things about this snake boat race.
1. A lot of people are enjoying it
2. The people who are participating in it will get enough exercise
3. Can make a lot from tourism.

The not so good things are
1. It’s not a good idea to travel in bus on this day.
2. Accidents (because of "vellam")

I don’t think that kuttanad can depend on this kinda agriculture for a long time. Agriculture is no more a profit making business now. This is because we solely depend on weather and it has now become unpredictable. In addition to this there are no workers. Most people take loans from the banks and then the whole things turn out to be a tragedy. And then, suicides…

Almost 30-40% paddy fields are not even cultivated. They simply remain as “WASTE LAND", because of African payal (പായല്‍) or other algae. you can see the payal in that pic ( IN PIC, coconut tree+paddy+payal)

Thaneermukkam bund plays a major role in this. It was built with a perspective to provide 2 cultivations per year. But since the sea water was blocked, those payal grew and accumulated. I heard that the machines used to remove this payal are very costly so a farmer cannot even rent it for a day ( rs.1200 per hour). A solution we can think of is “ONE PADDY, ONE FISH” ( ഒരു നെല്‍, ഒരു മീന്‍). That is alternate cultivation of paddy and fish per year. And attract more tourists to the beautiful greenery and backwaters.

These points were made almost 10 years ago. But nothing worked out. You know why?

....

Because of some “isms”…they are afraid of "changes"

So let’s hope for the best.
