The big game around culture!

There had been a lot of discussions and debates regarding the pub culture, Valentine’s Day celebrations etcetera last days. The politicians and celebrities were making statements about this and most of them have turned out to be controversies. The media got this good piece of cake and was making maximum out of it.

Speaking about pub culture in India, fundamentalists want ‘women’ to stay out of it, saying this is not part of “Indian culture”. The very next day, I saw a TV channel reporting that the ancient sculptures of India reveals that women used to drink with men.{ crossing the version of fundamentalists}. Do we need such kind of support to do something that we want to do?

I don’t think that whatever the ancient people did and practiced were right. Also things have changed a lot .And why are these people crying over it again and again. The answer is simple. The so-called “dominancy” of men is losing. {I’m just generalizing things, there may be exceptions} Because women are becoming more and more independent in every respect and men are losing control over women. Why cant women go to pub and enjoy that way if they want to. Every Indian has the liberty to do what she/he wants with her/her time and life. And it’s not the “other” one who determines it.

Some groups are very concerned about the “Indian culture”, so they don’t want women to go pub and they don’t allow youth to celebrate valentine’s day. They molested women (in public) who went to pub, so that no other women do it again. What a great “service”… They condemned the media for reporting this and giving publicity. They “warned” women to stay out of pubs and let the men have all the fun.{And making statements like, that kind of funs are for men only.}

still, I haven’t seen similar kind of protest against the vulgar “entertaining stuffs” of the “……woods” here. That is part of Indian culture?

And I have heard many people saying that these molesting and pub attacks were odd incidents only. They will say its odd until it happens to them.

India is the largest democratic nation. And still we can’t express our love, we can’t celebrate it and we don’t have the liberty to socialize. We need the permission of these fundamentalists for whatever things we do. And these fundamentalists think that youth are always wrong.

Why should we follow the older versions?

We know our limits and where we are heading. And we don’t want others to determine our life and our lifestyle.

cheers,

Tressy
